Cedarlane academy pto award grant principles



At this time, Cedarlane Academy PTO only grants the PVSA to youth in elementary school, middle school or high school; and adults who volunteer for Cedarlane Academy, and Cedarlane Academy PTO. Cedarlane PTO's award year is from April 1 thru March 31st of the following year. Applications for the 2023-2024 award year ae due April 5, 2024.

Required hours per award level are a national standard. These service requirements are not dictated by Cedarlane Academy PTO.

  1. United States citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States (i.e., green card holder)
  2. Must be at least five years old.
  3. The PVSA is awarded based on the following hours of service in a 12-month period:

Cedarlane Academy PTO will grant awards based on the following principles:

  1. The 12-month period will be measured based on hours served between April 1 of one year and March 31 of the next.
  2. Age category will be based on your age on December 31 during the PVSA awarding year period.
  3. Recipient(s) must be a United States citizen or a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States.
  4. Applicants must keep a record of your hours. Cedarlane Academy PTO will not keep a record for you.
  5. You may count 100% of actual service hours for approved service projects sponsored or organized by Cedarlane Academy PTO.
    • Examples of projects that qualify for credit towards a PVSA are: coaching Cedarlane extracurricular activities, volunteering in teachers’ classrooms, tutoring other Cedarlane students, volunteering at Cedarlane Academy events after school hours (such as business day or back to school night) or Other activities approved by the Cedarlane Academy PTO PVSA Awards Committee.
    • You will not receive credit towards a PVSA for any activity unless you have evidence indicating how many hours you served for that activity.
    • You will not receive credit towards a PVSA for any hours served due to disciplinary issues or punitive issues.
    • Donating money or items does not count as community service.
    • You will not receive credit for any hours worked towards a class that will give actual grades. (ie ASB)
  6. Students may also count 100% of actual service hours for service projects sponsored or organized by organizations other than Cedarlane Academy PTO. In order for these hours to count towards a PVSA, student must complete the Non-Cedarlane Academy PTO activity form, and attach any supporting documents with your application.
    • Final approval will come from the Cedarlane Academy PTO PVSA Awards Committee.
    • Supporting documentation is a certificate or letter evidencing your service that clearly identifies the organization and is signed by an adult leader or authorized adult supervisor of that organization. An email from the leader of that event or organization stating your involvement and hours earned may also be accepted.
    • You can send completed applications, supporting documentation or questions regarding approval to contactus@cedarlanePTO.org.
  7. Decisions of the Cedarlane Academy PTO PVSA Awards Committee as to whether an activity counts as credit towards a PVSA are final.
  8. Awards will be distributed at a school award ceremony in May. You can submit your record by giving the following to the PVSA Awards Committee by March 31 of each year:
    • PVSA Application
    • A completed log showing all of your service activities
    • Copies of the certificates or letters you received when you performed the service, and/or other supporting documentation.
    • Non-Cedarlane Academy PTO activity form.
    • We are asking for the youth to include in their application a photo of the youth volunteering, if possible. Send the picture via email to contactus@cedarlanePTO.org as a jpeg or upload in the digital application form, and include a brief caption describing the photo and the event. The photos may be used during the PVSA ceremony and Cedarlane Academy PTO promotional materials.
